Things I’ve Learned After 16 Years in the Advertising Business:

Half the battle is picking your battles.

A good producer is worth her weight in gold. (And it’s almost always a her, isn’t it?)

During long edit sessions, a well-stocked beverage fridge is key to maintaining team morale.

“Please get your time caught up” isn’t a polite suggestion.

(Related: be friendly to the folks in accounting.)

It’s easier than you think to make a good ad for a “boring” product. And vice versa.

There’s always another idea.

Where I’ve Been:

2006 – Present: Young & Laramore
Moved to Indy for first job. Stayed about 1000% longer than expected.

2004 – 2006: VCU Brandcenter
Boot camp for advertising. If boot camp lasted two years and the drill sergeants occasionally bummed smokes off of you.

1999 – 2003: University of Virginia
Earned a degree in Politics just about the time I realized I wasn’t going to use it. Convenient!

Awards: A bunch I don’t care about, a couple I do.
